It was the little things that bothered her most. The way the sunlight hit the kitchen table, the angle of the afternoon shadows in the living room. Everything was suddenly charged with a sense of impermanence. She found herself staring at the worn spots on the floor, the imperfections she had once found charming.

She had always loved the quirky charm of the building, the uneven floors, the creaking stairs. Now, these imperfections felt like liabilities, glaring reminders of what she was about to lose. She felt a burning in her gut, a low-grade panic that wouldn't abate.

She started boxing up her belongings, even though she hadn't found a new place. She had to do something, anything, to maintain some semblance of control.
